Terms of Service

Version 1.1 · 26 August 2026

1. The provider

Vellum is provided by Richard Palmer, trading as Sedge5 Technology Solutions, of 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX (“we”, “us”). We may be contacted at [email protected].

Vellum is operated as a hosted service at vellum.sigillum.uk. These terms govern your use of that service.

2. The service

Vellum produces sealed, cryptographically signed bundles attesting to the provenance of documents submitted to it: what was submitted, when, under which issuer key, and what was derived from it.

Vellum attests provenance. It does not verify that the content of a document is accurate, lawful, or fit for any purpose. A verified bundle establishes what was sealed and by whom; it is not a representation that the claims within the document are true.

Verification does not depend on our continued existence or on any trust placed in us. A bundle may be verified against its issuer key independently.

3. Accounts

4. Key custody

Signing keys are generated within your browser and are not transmitted to us. We hold no copy. This property is what permits a bundle to establish issuance independently of us.

If access to the browser profile holding a signing key is lost, that key cannot be recovered by us or by any other party. Bundles already sealed remain verifiable. A new key must be enrolled for subsequent work.

5. Fees and payment

6. Acceptable use

You shall not use Vellum to:

7. Your content

You retain all rights in the documents you submit and in the bundles produced from them. We claim no ownership of either.

You grant us only such licence as is necessary to operate the service: to store, process and transmit your content for the purpose of producing and serving your bundles.

8. Publication

You may publish a sealed record, choosing for each record whether it is published at an unlisted address containing a random token or at a listed address containing your account name. Publication is at your election; we do not publish your records.

By publishing a record you confirm that you are entitled to make it and its contents public.

A listed address may be indexed by search engines. You may unpublish at any time, and the page will cease to be served, but we cannot recall copies made by others while it was published.

Unpublishing does not affect retention of the sealed bundle under clause 12.

Publication ends when your account is closed. Clause 12 continues to govern the sealed bundle.

We may suspend publication of a record where required by law or where it breaches clause 6.

9. Availability

Vellum is offered without a service level agreement, guaranteed availability, or continuous support cover. We aim to respond to support requests within two working days.

10. Warranties and liability

The service is provided on an “as is” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude the implied warranties of satisfactory quality and fitness for a particular purpose.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability which cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to the foregoing, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with these terms is limited to the fees paid by you in the twelve months preceding the claim. We shall not be liable for loss of profit, loss of business, or any indirect or consequential loss.

11. Term and termination

12. Retention of sealed bundles

Intake files and workspace data are handled as described in the Privacy Notice.

Sealed bundles are retained indefinitely and are not deleted on termination or on request. This is a permanent property of the service. An attestation capable of being withdrawn by its issuer does not constitute evidence, and the assurance you obtain is that a sealed bundle cannot be withdrawn.

By entering into these terms you acknowledge and accept that sealed bundles will persist beyond the term of your subscription. The corresponding provision of the Data Processing Agreement applies where a bundle contains personal data.

13. Data protection

Where we process personal data on your behalf, the Data Processing Agreement applies and forms part of these terms.

14. General
